Accompanying Rob as Pitt crew was our own Peter Jackson returning the favour as Rob was his Pitt crew at Winton. At this meeting all the S group ran together which didn't thrill John or Colin. However stirring up the Big Boys is always lots of fun (they didn't ) Don Holland also ran his new Formula Ford and was happy with the potential of the car ( That means he didn't win.) It was a great weekend of racing with the weather fine except for the wind, the results have been lost, much to John and Colin's relief. Steve Sheppard ran very well mid field in very quick company and did some commentating as well. Rob in the 3000 ran very well and after practice was by far the quickest car in Sa. However, in the first race he had brake problems and he broke a bush in the gearbox in the second race which ended his weekend - a pity because he was running very quickly. It would be great to see more Healeys in Sa, they would be very competitive. The following Saturday, 26th June, was our own Supersprint, round four of the CSCA series, held at Wakefield Park. The weather was normal Goulburn weather - windy, cold, almost sleeting, almost perfect. The day was a great success with all the other CSCA Clubs giving us the thumbs up (or maybe they were just telling us to get stuffed.) The reason for all the good reports was due to the effort put in by Club members and other volunteers who worked very hard to make the day the success it was. Many people helped, however special thanks to: Carolyn Kent, Delwyn Goldsmith, John Kent, Craig Sheppard, Chris Dimmock, John Dowsett and Don Holland, who worked all day in uncomfortable weather to ensure the day's success. If you missed out don't despair, we will be looking for more volunteers next year. On the Saturday night there was a dinner at the Motel with about 30 people attending. A great night was had by all, it just perfectly capped off a great day. Now for the results: Fastest Club member was Cameron Sell in the Black 3000, with a fastest lap of 1:09.00 which was very quick for such a cold day, Cameron was 7th in class R3. Next was our only Victorian Rep., Geoff Leake, in his very quick Healey 100 with a fastest lap of 1:17.08 which gave him 3rd place in class C3. Then there was "THE ALAN"…… Never having driven one before, Alan Cole was kindly given a lend of Don Holland's Formula Ford. In his first Supersprint, and never having been on a racetrack before, Alan won his class R2 with a fastest lap of 1:19.13. How's that for talent! The new superstar will be signing autographs at the next Club meeting. Patrick Townsend was next in his Valiant Charger, valiantly charging around the track with a best time of 1:24.90, 3rd place in NM2b and a huge smile on his face. One of our newest members, Joanne Gladden, was able to borrow Steve Sheppard's MGB GT and enter her first Supersprint. She did a great job with a fastest lap of 1:26.98 and 7th place in group D2. Steve is breathing again, although still a bit red in the face, and will now strip the engine down to check for damage. Mr. President, Stephen Clark, in his lovely 3000 returned to the track after saving his car for the trip to Perth to run a fastest lap of 1:29.87 and 3rd in class B3 but not before doing a demonstration spin in front of everyone at the Gurgler. (That's the name of a corner for those poor people who weren't there). Not to be outdone by his President our esteemed Treasurer, Michael Branson, in his return to the track after a number of years also managed a spin, this time at the beginning of the straight, fortunately for him not many saw it, but everyone knows about it now. His best lap of 1:32.89 was good enough to place him 5th in class C3. All Club members who ran did very well and enjoyed themselves, we could do with more. Thanks again to all Competitors and helpers, your contribution made the event the success it was. On the following day, Sunday, Wakefield Park ran the All British Day in almost perfect weather. Running were:
Everyone ran well and had a good time with John and Colin having some good dices and Jeff running very well until he broke the MG's gear lever in half, whoops! This of course would never happen in a Healey. Cameron Sell was awesome in the Healey/MG races winning them both and then backing up and coming third in both the Division 1 races - well done Cameron, the competition was very strong. In the Division 3 trophy race Colin Goldsmith completely outfoxed John Dowsett with some brilliant driving, causing John to outbreak himself in the Gurgler and run wide allowing the Sprite to slip through and take second place. John was very good about it and hardly cried at all. Don't forget the next two Supersprints: The Morgan Club at Eastern Creek on Saturday, 7th August. The Triumph Club at Wakefield Park on Sunday, 5th September. See Craig or Colin for Sup. Regs. and get yourselves onto the track. But be quick these events fill up fast. Also the HSRCA is having another meeting at Eastern Creek on the weekend of 11th & 12th September - pencil this in your diary, it is a great way to watch motor racing.
